BITcommander is a file Manager for a new generation of Windows, which aims to gather the best of existing solutions and reappraise it from the point of view of convenience of usage, implemented in the form of new software that gives the user a more comfortable navigation experience and data management.


The author of this project aims to get rid of excess, unnecessary clicks and other gestures that are slowing down. The user should see only what is relevant for him at the moment. And the program will reflect such data in the most efficient manner.

Externally, the BITcommander is reminiscent of Finder Windows 8 style, with elements of Total Commander and Adobe Bridge. The folder structure is made in the form of vertical panels, which reflect the General details the hierarchy and the nesting level of the current folder. When you switch to the following directory parent panel shifted aside, and the contents of the selected folder is always in the center of the screen and fills most of the window.



The program implemented a system of "clever" names for folders and files. Long names that do not fit in the panel as a whole, shortened a clever way, keeping important elements visible name. An interesting solution is the smart mode formatting the file names. BITcommander defines words, numbers, and special characters, and is hard to read names in a readable form, placing spaces, removing underline and bold numbers, to facilitate the identification of versions similar files:

This is just a small part of what, according to the author, is able the program. It should be noted that this is not just a set of ideas for implementation, and an existing program that is currently under closed testing. Release the first closed beta is expected in February 2014. Public release in April.
