LinkMeUp. Issue # 17. The shortcomings of TCP and new transport layer protocols
17 th edition of the podcast dedicated to Linkmeup globaldevices topic.
Visiting us Dmitry Kachan — graduate student of SibSUTI. Dmitry is currently engaged in the development of the transport protocols running at the application level.
So today we are talking about the shortcomings of TCP, why now he can no longer perform its role of a Protocol with guaranteed delivery in some cases.
You know what, there are some approaches to solving this problem.

Under the cut you can find a list of some commercial solutions and protocols for the efficient transmission of information with guaranteed delivery, and the research of Dmitri.

A list of experimental applications:
Some of the solutions based on TCP, some on UDP. As a result of the article is easy to notice with the naked eye a significant advantage in the approach is based on UDP.
When the analysis was based on data from research, which shows that only 75 % of Intercontinental connections is an indicator of packet loss below 1%, respectively study in a network with packet loss 1% interest, at least, is the place to be. As for the delay — 200 MS Round Trip Time in the optical networks corresponds to approximately the distance of 20 000 km (excluding delays at intermediate devices) and hence such compounds are also possible. (all this is described in the article).
Later studies have been conducted on the protocols for data transfer( before that it was about the end of the application).
the
As protocols were used:
The resulting picture is the same: the UDP has a significant prevalence.

The project, implemented by the University of Anhalt, the German government (funding) and two German firms: Tixel GmbH and Axxeo GmbH.
Some create firewalls and other Protocol RWTP. The idea was to make use of the RWTP Protocol for data transfer as transparent as possible.
This project was presented twice at the CeBit 2013 and 2014 СeBit.
