Of interesting and useful things will no longer
I think many of you even once met in the ribbon Habra one of my collections "of Interesting and useful things for web developers". The first issue on 15 August 2013 appeared on the background of banal ideas to share valuable tools that I already use or have kept bookmarked for the future. Initially had no idea that my public collecting would become repetitive, but since then I have published 41 digest.
Of course, over time, there is a duty to the audience, the date of publication and the writing began to demand more time. Significantly increased the list of monitoring of interesting and useful things. Now it's several thematic sobretudo, GitHub trending, this hackernews, ProductHunt and dozens of accounts on Twitter Smashing Magazine, CSS Tricks, Codrops, David Walsh Blog, Alist Apart, Poul Irish, Tuts+, SitePoint and so on. I want to Express my gratitude to Alexander Maslov drakmail, that fully provides the information to Ruby and Go categories, and also helps with the other.
But now I just don't have the time. It all started back last summer when I first visited the idea of starting to translate existing collections for the Western audience. How did English-speaking users on the Internet is much more about 565 million vs ~60 million Russian-speaking and this is just the 2011 data. Plus, the practical value of my digests was "tested" here for best web developers in the post-Soviet space and possibly some of the best in the world, he talked about the feasibility of my undertaking as a whole. Confused me only my English. I could not literally understand the meaning of almost any technical articles, but practice in communicating and writing as such was not. The final decision on that was made after I saw a translation of my 22 issue on Reddit: Something that you might be interested in.
Not to pay, and earn tuition English
Start
In mid-July, I registered the domain ipestov.com, downloaded to his newfangled Ghost in DigitalOcean and 5 minutes later I had my own personal blog. Then I took his content and wrote approximately once a week. Initially, the transfer of one of the compilation from Russian to English it took me about two hours. Now to me it is enough one hour. A few months later, I did normal to formalize their creation and little by little throughout the week, the CSS method of experimentation has made quite a nice design.
promotion Costs
They are not. But to be perfectly even, I spent 500 rubles on advertising in Facebook, the same for the post in the same thematic public in Vkontakte, and the same Reddit. But this is more my curiosity. The beauty of the English resource is that if content has value, then the audience can be easily extended with the help of many different social services. Demonstration of a good viral one of my posts in the "Natically":
And this is just one example. Translation of my compilation the best plugins for Sublime one of sabredav extended to 15,000 for the first day, and it gave more flow per 10 000 of them national Chinese Twitter Weibo. And since I'm on 2-3 position in Google for those looking for additions to this wonderful editor.

Monetization, and the result
In addition to the development of the social element I want to note that on a completely different level are the advertising network. CPU was recently a post with the subject "Got 3 million hits per month, but how do I earn". While I set myself one small banner from Carbon and receive a minimum of $1 and maximum is $1.5 depending on the number of clicks per 1000 views. I stress that $1 — a guaranteed minimum. And March I have more than 100,000 unique visitors and almost 200 000 views.
In the end, I got my first passive income with minimum effort. In addition to earnings blog brings me new friends and connections. Plus constantly progressing my English.

Habr — is a rich source of valuable thoughts and minds. There are authors who write things no less useful and interesting than the stars it over the hill. Such resources are no longer anywhere, and I think it is unlikely this experience will be repeated in principle, because all originated from the most hardened Soviet geeks. But as paradoxical as it may sound, we hide ourselves from others.
I just wanted to share a time when without perfect English and deep understanding of marketing, we are can be heard in the West, getting from this a triple benefit. And articles containing specific experience and objective observation everywhere are valued higher than any footnotes, digests, compilations like mine. You all can be at times better! By the way, a bit of humor. Perhaps I have a very bad domain. I have 21 years as Pestov, but only recently learned that in Russian language there is a word "cherish", and the fact that the English "pest" means absolutely the opposite and is translated as "the pest" it turned out at all yesterday. One can only hope that foreigners do not cause negative associations at the first visit.
From the 1st of April!
Of course the first part to the cat drawing. Collections will not disappear until it will make sense to hebraisch.
Thank you for your attention! All good and success in international expansion of your thoughts!
